Google takes the top spot when it comes to consumer brand perception, according to FutureBrand’s latest rankings.

The list ranks the top 100 companies in terms of perception strength. FutureBrand compiled the data from 3,000 consumers (the study refers to the respondents as "the informed public") that ranked the companies across 18 attributes.

Google held the top spot for the second year in a row, and a few companies jumped into the top ten for the first time, including AbbVie, Gilead, Celgene and SAB Miller. Apple, Microsoft and The Walt Disney Co. held onto high rankings.

Here's a brief explanation of the rankings, via FutureBrand:

For example, in this year’s research nearly half of all those surveyed say they would like to work for Apple and Google (against an increased average of 25%), and 51% of our respondents say they would buy products and services from Microsoft (against an increased average of 32%). This is compared to organizations with weaker perceptions against our dimensions like Alibaba and Amazon that have below average appeal to our respondents as places to work.

Other factors in the rankings include engaging with the public, building an emotional connection and having a "vision for the future."

Here are the top 10:

  2. Apple
  3. Microsoft
  4. The Walt Disney Co.
